Teaching Policies

To ensure a high-quality experience for our community, Odex.lk maintains a set of guidelines that every class and teacher must meet in order to remain on the platform. Read on to learn what makes a quality class and what policies and processes we have in place to support the safety of everyone in our community.

The teacher may receive a warning to their account for violations of our Terms and conditions/or our privacy policies. A warning will be sent to the teacher's email address. Warnings do not limit account activity but can lead to your account becoming permanently disabled based on the severity of the violation.

Class Quality Guidelines

While we are an open platform, all classes on Odex.lk need to meet the following criteria.

1.      Teach on a Permitted Topic

Odex.lk classes cover a wide variety of topics related to academic studies and skills development. There’s a lot of room for unique and specific skills and expression within these fields, but some topics are limited on odex.lk.

The following class topics are not permitted on Odex.lk:

·         Classes focused on passive income business strategies, amassing fast followers, or promising financial outcomes

·         Classes about dating, romance, or relationships

·         Classes about teaching on other educational platforms

·         Classes that show students how to resell existing products or services (such as drop-shipping or multi-level marketing)

·         Classes about medical content or that are related to the medical field (e.g., holistic medicine, dieting, nutrition, weight management)

·         Classes that focus on or consistently reference any of the following: religion, spirituality, politics

·         Classes about fitness and/or exercise

·         Classes that focus on pet care (e.g., grooming, training)

·         Classes that focus on beauty regimens or cosmetology

2.      Include an Introduction Video

Any teacher can publish an introductory video of their choice. If so published, the following instructions should be followed.

Your intro video is basically the movie trailer for your class. It’s the first thing students see when they click on your class and the only part of your video content that non-members can see. At a minimum, the intro video should:

·         Be the very first lesson in your class.

·         Stand on your own and clearly explain what the class is about.

·         Let students know what they’re about to learn and what they can expect.

·         Provide more information on your experience with the class topic and background.

3.      Include a Class Project

At Odex.lk, we believe real learning happens through doing. As such, all classes on Odex.lk need to have a clear and engaging project component. At a minimum, it should include:

·         Reading materials

·         Clear instructions that specify what students should do or make during or after taking your class.

4.      Include Well-Organized Content

Great instruction requires a solid structure based on a lesson plan or course outline. At a minimum:

·         Each of your video lessons must have a clear title that reflects the content of the lesson.

·         Each class or video section should only be uploaded once. Classes that are overly repetitive in the content may be removed.

5.      Meet Standards for Audio & Video Quality

High-quality audio and video ensure students can stay focused on learning. Keep in mind:

·         The audio in your class must be clear and easy to understand. It should also be free of distracting background noises, such as hums, fuzziness, crackling, or echoes.

·         Your audio should sync with your video footage and come out of both channels.

·         Your video must be high resolution (1080p) and shot with a steady camera, clear lighting, and framing.

·         Screencasts, images, and text must be sharp, not blurry or pixelated.

6.      Vary Visual Presentation

We require that teachers include a variety of visuals and/or visual formats, such as adding in on-screen text, slides, or example images, to help emphasize key takeaways or explain complex ideas. Even switching up camera angles can break up static shots and keep students engaged. Classes should not showcase one static picture or slide for the entirety of a lesson.

In addition to varied visuals, within each class:

·         Talking head shots need to be well-lit with professional backdrops.

·         Slides need to be well-structured and visually appealing.

·         Avoid rambling, ums, or excessive pauses.

7.      Limit Self-Promotion

Within your classes, It' s prohibited to the marketing your brand. (e.g., discussing your personal brand or business; encouraging students to follow you on social media or visit your website; sharing logos or another personal branding)

You are permitted to refer to any of your previous Odex.lk classes anywhere within a class as long as the reference is in support of student learning (e.g., it provides prerequisite information or complements your teaching in the current lesson).

8.      Foster Genuine Learning

We support authentic, inspired learning and all classes on Odex.lk are, first and foremost, educational. Therefore:

·         Classes may not consist simply of a walkthrough, review, or demo of a certain website or tool without any added knowledge-based value from the teacher.

·         We don’t permit classes that guarantee or promise a specific outcome or are geared primarily towards helping students achieve a static or monetary reward (i.e., “get rich quick” schemes) or a follower count on a platform (i.e., “hacks” for growing your Instagram audience).

9.      Meet Our Minimum Engagement Requirements

All classes on Odex.lk will be required to meet a minimum threshold of engagement, which will apply to all classes.

Teachers have facilitated to upload of class videos and teachers can select the watch time and the duration of the video displayed.

Class Moderation

1.      Why Odex.lk Classes Are Moderated

Odex.lk is intended to be a safe, educational, and engaging community. For this reason, classes published on the platform are moderated daily to ensure adherence to our Class Quality Guidelines, Community Guidelines, and Teaching Policies. We reserve the right to remove any content posted to the platform that we deem to be in opposition to this stated intention or otherwise conflicts with our mission.

2.      How Does the Moderation Process Work?

To ensure that all classes meet our guidelines, Odex.lk’s team of moderators reviews every class that has some complaints.

If we find any violations in your class, you’ll receive an email within 72 hours of publishing it, and your class will be closed, which means students will no longer be able to access it. In some cases, you may have the opportunity to make updates to your class in accordance with our guidelines. From there, our team will re-review your class and reopen it to students if possible. Classes that are not reopened may be permanently deleted by the Odex.lk team.

3.      How Does the Strike System Work?

Odex.lk has a three-strike system for violations of our Class and Teaching Guidelines. If a violation is found, it is recorded internally. After an Odex.lk user receives 3 strikes, our moderators review the total account history of the user and the timeline in which the strikes occurred.

·         Strikes are rolled back on a 6-month basis, meaning that in order to have your account closed for a violation of our Guidelines, all 3 strikes must have been issued within a 6-month period.

·         If a class is removed due to content violations, that class will not be accessible to students and the teacher will no longer be eligible to receive royalties or referral bonuses for the removed class.

·         In cases of impersonation, illegal, or fraudulent activity, users may have all of their content or entire profiles removed without any strikes being issued. For more information, please visit our Terms of Service.

If you have any questions at all about Odex.lk’s Class Quality Guidelines or moderation process, email the Teacher Support team at odex.online.lk@gmail.com, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
